dear members,
dint had much time to go thro' your responses. but if senior ppl are targetting this fellow( mercies) for this thread, then i beg to differ. because as a member of IV, i have been answering "hadron" posts too at immigration portal.
I think all Mercies is trying to do is help IV out, by preparing answers of such questions which stupid ppl ask, so they can be put to a stop right away. Probably he's drawing your attention to some q's that all of you have answers for, just guide mercies to that post,
but i think all of your remarks have been directed towards merices only as if he's started it all.
i guess we outta stop ppl who are trying to defame this collective effort by giving them one-point answers.

Exactly! I go by a different user name at Immigration Portal, and tried my best to counter hadron's posts. I only created this thread after I saw that no people in the know were countering this guy. I am a foot soldier, not an officer.
The post from rags4u is exactly what we needed. He and another IV guy is engaged in getting things under control, as I wanted.
I wonder if this person who did all this posting without reading what is posted on the site and wasted the valuable time of IV volunteers from an anti immigration group? Please do not get distracteed guys and all those people sitting ont he edge, join in and act!!
As for all of you guys who raise the scare of anti-immigrationists at the drop of the hat - go thru all of my posts, and you will find I cannot be from numbersusa. You can also check with IV's officers and they can get my name/address from my contribution check already deposited in IV's account!
Please try to counter propaganda wherever you can - that's how we will get more people to join! Efforts like mine do not waste time - they serve a purpose!

I understand what everybody says, but some people are honest and you have to believe. Can somebody who is knowledgeable on the subject, post a reply please?
well you guys are the kings of jumping ahead of the line using labor substitution...how can any of us be knowledgable on the subject...contact unitednations or ppl like him who "help" the skirters of the law.
svan77: if a person posts on a forum he or she will get the opinions of members whether he/she likes it or not. all of us have our beef with labor substitors and ppl with 3 yr degrees or aptec/niit diplomas who just believe in jumping ahead of the line and have no qualms about it.

The Tri-Valley University in Pleasanton, a major suburb in San Francisco Bay Area, has been charged by federal investigating authorities with being part of an effort to defraud, misuse visa permits and indulge in money laundering and other crimes.
According to a federal complaint filed in a California court, the University, which was raided and shut down last week, helped foreign nationals illegally acquire immigration status.
The university is said to have 1,555 students. As many as 95 per cent of these students are Indian nationals, the complaint said.
Investigations by Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) found that while students were admitted to various residential and online courses of the university and on paper lived in California, in reality they "illegally" worked in various parts of the country as far as Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
ICE has called it as a "sham university." The ICE investigations found that more than half of these students were reported to be residing in a single apartment located in Sunnyvale California.
During the course of the investigation ICE found that the university gave the residential address of its students in order to conceal that they did not live in California, said the court papers.
For a student to maintain an active immigration status, they must show proof that they are making reasonable process towards completing coursework and physically attend classes.
Federal investigating authorities are now sweeping out on each of those students, who paid lakhs for obtaining students visa and also students work permit.
Several of them have been interrogated, creating a panic reaction among the Indian student community.
Many of the students from Andhra Pradesh, who were planning to join the university for the new semester, have cancelled their US travel plans.
Classes were scheduled to start on January 10 after the winter break.
It is understood that many of these students are planning to leave the country as soon as possible as they are being interrogated.
There are unconfirmed reports of some of the students being detained and deportation process has been started against them.
Once the university has been shut down, the students who come on F-1 visa, lose their status within a stipulated time. These students have been making desperate calls to Indian- American immigration attorneys.
"We have received verification that ICE has detained some of the students and placed them in removal proceedings," Murthy Law Firm, a popular immigration attorney firm among Indian-Americans, said in a posting on its website.
On January 20, 2011 the Murthy Law Firm received numerous phone calls from students registered at Tri-Valley University in Pleasanton, California, it said in its posting.

Taking up the DREAM Act issue will strengthen the IV cause...by showing how legals are getting short-changed from every angle on the entire immigration issue.
It requires a very small change in the DREAM Act as contained in CIR. Just remove the clause that says it will apply to Z visa holders. In any case, Z visa no longer exists since CIR failed. But I am afraid the will replace it by some condition requiring undocumented presence. Remaining conditions apply to legals as well:

� Have maintained continuous physical presence in the U.S. since 1/1/07
� Was under 30 years of age on date of enactment
� Was under age 16 at time of initial entry into U.S.
� Have obtained U.S. high school diploma or GED
� Have not been absent from the U.S. for more than 365 total days during period of conditional residence (except those absent due to U.S. military service)
� Have acquired a degree from a U.S. higher ed institution; or completed 2 years in Bachelor�s degree program or higher at such an institution; or have served at least 2 years in the U.S. military
� Has provided a list of all of the secondary educational institutions he or she has attended in the U.S

That is one of the points raised in this current letter campaign for admin fixes.

I suggest you wait and see if you can reconcile your differences......Marriage is a life long commitment. Remember we fall in love and we work on our marriages. Try reading the book called "5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman....It is an excellent book for couples who are on the verge of breaking or even for couples who want to enhance their married life.
Sorry I do not have any advice for you, except that you try to get back together....which will help you avoid refiling 485 or refiling Labor......The choice is yours!!!

For couple of weeks in 2001, when I was getting H1 transfer, I was without pay. I applied H1 transfer before old H1 expired, but got the receipt notice after few weeks and only after that I started working. Am I out of status ?
For that matter, is it out of status if one gets paid from 2 companies with
2 H1bs ? If one is on bench but getting paid by one company, starts working with 2nd company on new H1b?

Taking a plunge now on EAD is like drowning yourself. prices have not yet come down and will come down by 15-20 % over 5 years. there is talk about recession , job losses and more foreclosures. if you dont need the space ...DONT BUY. most of us dont need more space unless we have 2-3 grown kids who need their own rooms. renting is not same as throwing away money as you get a place to live. how does buying a home give you security ..it is more of a hassle if you are on EAD or H-1 and you need mobility after a job is lost. my friend who has good worldly experience rightly said ..buying a house now is like worrying about one more thing in life.
If buying a house had been the smart option, I would have bought it already.

BTW, independent analysts predict that housing prices will fall by 20% in real terms in next 10 years.
All I am stating is that this issue can be a good talking point for the Immigration Lobby, especially as the housing market continues its slide down:)

Our community needs to get this - We [through non-participation] are the problem, not others.
If folks had turned up in DC rally in 10,000-20,000, if equal number thousands had written letters to their Congressmen, if all of them had visited local offices, if hundreds of them had visited DC offices - we would have succeeded by now. Steve King or not.
We did nothing, except make those last minute calls. We gave the lawmakers suggestion for solution (pass HR xxxxx), without bothering to educate them what the problem is and how many are impacted. Results were there for everyone to see, Horses bill was put for discussion before ours, making it very easy for Mr. King to do his dirty work.
We shouldn't be complaining. I bet the horse lovers (animal rights activists) were more active and successful in educating the lawmakers than our community. Hence they got the precedence.
Point is there will be lawmakers like Rep King and Sen Sessions, who'll oppose any visa increase or recapture, rain or sunshine. There are also lawmakers who are sympathetic to us to balance them out. Our biggest hurdle is other lawmakers who don't have a stand on the issue. They are the majority and their vote can go either way. Our biggest hurdle is to reach out to these lawmakers, explain our problems and convince them that a sufficiently large number of their constituents are impacted.
If we succeed in doing that, our battle is won. No King or Sessions can stop us.
Good job on bringing this back to fire.
But one sad thing that Steve king of Iowa got reelected and he is ready to filibuster.

Be aware that these 47,000 applications include family-based, asylum cases and refugee AOS as well. The employment based applications could be much lower than the 47,000.
